We are pleased to announce that the 1st Annual National Professional Development Symposium (NPDS), R0178 will be held June 11-13, 2014 at the U.S. Fire Administration’s (USFA) National Fire Academy (NFA) campus in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The symposium will feature presentations related to fire training and resources, fire and emergency services higher education, and fire prevention and protection.
The NPDS is a collaborative effort, highlighting Training Resources and Data Exchange (TRADE), Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE), and Fire Prevention Advocacy Resources and Data Exchange (PARADE) initiatives.
National Professional Development Workshop (R0703)
In conjunction with and immediately before the NPDS we will also be hosting the National Professional Development Workshop (NPDW), R0703. The workshop is a business workday for the TRADE Co-Chairs and Metros, Professional Development Initiative/FESHE workgroups and PARADE Membership Representatives.

There are no fees for attendance.
Lodging and Meals

Cost of the meal tickets are borne by the attendees; however, USFA will provide lodging at no charge and scheduled bus transportation to and from Baltimore Washington International (BWI) airport. Do not book your travel plans until confirmation of your acceptance is received from our Admissions Office. Transportation information will be included in your welcome packet from admissions.
Selection Criteria
Priority No. 1
Those active in fire and emergency services professional development, including official representatives of regionally accredited academic fire programs, State and local fire service and emergency medical services (EMS) training, national and State fire associations, and those responsible for developing fire and emergency service personnel. Candidates within this audience will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Priority No. 2
Those with interest in the field of fire and emergency services professional development. Candidates within this audience will be reviewed for acceptance after the application closing date.

Applicants should download and complete the General Admissions Application Short Form (FEMA Form 119-25-2).
Application information needs to be completed through block 18b.
When completing the application to attend the NPDS, please enter this information in Blocks 12a-c:

Application Information for the FESHE Conference and the Emergency Management Higher Education Conference
Individuals participating in both R-178 (June 11-13)) and the Emergency Management Institute’s Higher Education Conference (June 2-6, 2014) must submit a separate application for each conference. EMI Higher Education applications can be obtained by contacting Barbara Johnson at [email protected].

June 10 Working day for TRADE, FESHE and PARADE co-chairs, metro representatives, designated committees, and work groups. Also, travel-in and check-in day for symposium attendees (R0178).
June 11 Symposium begins (general sessions).
June 12 Symposium continues (breakout presentations).
June 13 Symposium ends following breakout presentations.
